Katia has given an image of this but I thought I’d share a few personal pics also because I had such a hard time imagining it when I first read the book. My friend Amanda remembered that her grandfather, who collected chess pieces, had this set and had someone recover it from her grandmother’s empty home in Florida. It has not survived fully intact (CHECK THE SOLES, for Pete[r]’s sake, CHECK THE SOLES) but you can see the detail well.

    if someone i Cared About Complicatedly bought me these and somebody smashed them i think i would commit straight-up murder 🙁
